ClosureFast® San Diego

If you're one of the many people who suffer from varicose veins, you may be interested in learning about ClosureFast®, a new treatment option that is showing great promise. This minimally invasive procedure offers several benefits over traditional surgery, including shorter recovery time and less scarring.
ClosureFast®

What is the ClosureFast® Procedure?

ClosureFast® is a minimally invasive treatment that eliminates unhealthy, diseased varicose veins in your legs, which are often caused by Chronic Venous Insufficiency.

How is the ClosureFast® Procedure Performed?

Before the procedure, a local anesthetic (numbing medicine) is injected on the inside of the knee. Using ultrasound as a guide, your doctor will use a needle to insert a tiny catheter into the diseased vein.  An anesthetic will then be injected into the length of the vein to maximize your comfort.

As the catheter is guided through the diseased varicose vein in 7cm segments, the ClosureFast® device will deliver consistent and uniform thermal energy to the walls of the vein, causing the vein to collapse/ seal shut, restoring healthy blood flow and circulation.  Your body will reabsorb the collapsed vein within 6 to 9 months.

The process takes anywhere between 45 to 60 minutes and is done on an outpatient basis.  Many patients report returning to work the very same day.

The Benefits of the ClosureFast® Procedure

Published data demonstrate over 95% success rate with few complications reported. Many consider the ClosureFast® procedure to be one of the best options to treat cases of major varicose veins and venous insufficiency.

Some of the noted advantages include little pain and discomfort, minimal recovery time, use of local anesthesia, safer and more effective alternative to surgery (vein stripping).  It is also covered by medical insurance.

Additional benefits include:

  • FDA approved
  • Non-surgical treatment
  • No general anesthesia needed
  • No sutures
  • Zero downtime
  • Results within a few days
  • High success rate

Keep in mind, ClosureFast® is a procedure designed as a medical necessity for the purpose of treating a diagnosed medical condition.  This procedure is not appropriate for cosmetic issues or spider veins.

Treatment Outcomes Using ClosureFast®

People who have been treated using the ClosureFast® procedure saw a noticeable improvement in their symptoms within 1 to 2 weeks.   Also, most patients report limited to no swelling, bruising, or scarring after the procedure.

In fact, a large study demonstrated continued success up to 5 years post-treatment with a 95% reflux-free rate.Source: National Institute Of Health

Risks of ClosureFast® Treatment

All medical interventions carry potential risks and complications.  During your consultation, your symptoms and medical history will be reviewed to determine whether any unique risks are present.

Also, your doctor will likely review the following complications:

  • Hematoma
  • Vessel perforation
  • Thrombosis
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Phlebitis
  • Infection
  • Adjacent nerve injury
  • Skin burn or discoloration

Other Treatment Options

VenaSeal®

VenaSeal® uses a specially formulated injectable adhesive to treat diseased veins.  The adhesive permanently seals the vein shut, restoring healthy circulation and blood flow.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy involves the injection of a solution (“sclerosant”) or foam directly into the varicose vein.  The solution irritates the vein, causing it to shrink and collapse.

Endovenous Laser Ablation

Laser ablation utilizes laser heat to contract and seal the unhealthy vein.  The heat ultimately causes the vein to contract and seal shut. Unlike the ClosureFast, peak laser temperatures can reach over 1334 F (729 C), which can lead to more pain and bruising after treatment.

Vein Stripping

During vein stripping, your doctor will make an incision in your groin and tie off the diseased vein.  A tool is then threaded through the leg vein to pull the vein out through a second incision made just above your calf.
